Clearing the Bases

Posted in Religion, Sports, Video on May 26, 2008 by Scott

Too many times when we make a “sacrifice” we feel as if we are losing something.

This video tells the story of two girls who sacrificed for a girl on the opposing team, even though it eventually cost their team the game.

There were no losers.

The Greatest

What else can you say…

If I could have dinner with three people whom I’ve never met (non-biblical figures), it would be Muhammad Ali, Henry David Thoreau and Bill Gates…

Clemens Headed For Heaven

Posted in Culture, God, Politics, Sports on February 13, 2008 by Scott

clemens.jpgDid anyone watch this? One of us thinks MLB should just become another WWE…let it implode…who cares. But one of us has a dream of touring the great stadiums and loves baseball…you know, thinks it’s football.

However, we agree that this is our tax dollars hard at work…this is really one of our primary issues in America…HGH, millionaire crybabies and their remodeled wives…whatever. Hold on, that could be a couple of churches we know of too…

But did you catch this line…

12:51. D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton asks Clemens why he kept employing McNamee considering the two had a falling out. “I’m a very forgiving person,” Clemens replies. Some in the crowd laugh. “I’m sure you are going to heaven,” Norton says.

Nice sarcasm…with the Gospel that simple and heaven that easy, she should start a church.

So is this important to you? I mean Congress represents us and our interests, so is this what matters?

Dana Jacobson Suspended

Posted in Christianity, Jesus, Religion, Sports on January 24, 2008 by Scott

touchdown_jesus.jpgIn case you didn’t hear, Dana Jacobson got suspended by ESPN for her remarks during the Mike and Mike roast on January 11th. Her drunken comments were, “F— Notre Dame,” “F— Touchdown Jesus” and finally “F— Jesus.” Please note it wasn’t the Jesus thing that got her in holy hot water, it was the Notre Dame thing.

The irony is Jesus was already demeaned when they nicknamed him Touchdown Jesus but for some reason the hilarity of that little fact goes by people.

So here are some things you can’t mischaracterize on the job…

  • Scientology and Tom Cruise…as Google and Youtube found out, the Church of Scientology is powerful and their leader is off limits
  • The word noose or lynch…as Kelly Tilghman found out, race is always in play, especially when its directed at the greatest athlete in sports
  • Catholics and Notre Dame…don’t worry they concealed pedophiles…don’t mess with their idol in the end zone

As for Jesus, he’s fair game; we, his proclaimed followers put up the tent on that circus long ago.

Are we too easily offended…its easier, right…to be offended, to live exception by exception…are you an 80/20’er…80% of your attitude is determined by the 20% of crap that happens to you.

Just Bring It

Posted in Culture, Leadership, Management, Sports, Video on January 10, 2008 by Scott

I had a crappy day yesterday…my philosophy in business and life is to share bad news fast. The last thing I want, is to hear something for the very first time about my company from the Chairman because someone who works for me doesn’t play well with others. Some people, instead of bringing solutions when they see a problem, just like to bring the problem…complain and not be encumbered by the facts. Then they proceed to poke holes in everything as to perhaps draw attention away from themselves.

…never walk into a room with a problem unless you have a solution or are willing to collaborate to find one…

We see this in the church too…people say what’s not working but have nothing better, but when the tough steps are taken to resolve, improve and establish a higher standard of effectiveness…they puff up and resist because they would rather bathe in mediocrity without change.

So this is a tribute to the posers…to those who bitch and whine…to those who want others to get it done….we say strap it on and get in the game.

What you’re doing isn’t working.  Maybe it’s time to try something different…
